How do we choose the best?
This year we changed the test. Most reviews score a gadget on how well it does its own job — which is how a bike computer can earn a 9 while the rider using it stays stuck at the same FTP. So we score differently now. Your results are decided by five things working together: your sleep, your recovery, your food, your stress, and whether today's workout fits all four. A complete system has to read all of that — and still run the ride. Our Complete-Rider Score rates every device on how much of that job it covers. Do one part perfectly and the maths still caps you near a 3 — because one part is all it sees. That's not a hardware insult. It's a coverage score. Here's what we evaluated:
Ride-metric depth. We weighed how deep the on-bike picture actually goes — live power, heart rate, elevation, and turn-by-turn navigation in one app. HELIOS estimates power from the wrist; use it for training zones and trends, not as a lab-grade force reading.
Recovery insight. The best wearables explain why you're fast or flat, not just how hard you pushed. We prioritized systems that turn overnight sleep stages, HRV, and skin temperature into one clear daily readiness score — instead of another chart you have to interpret yourself.
